The house

A family home, handed down and still lived in

Roseline and her daughter Béatrice open the doors of a house that has always run to the rhythm of long tables set out under the trees and the smell of Sunday tarts.

By opening the family home to travellers, Béatrice wanted to see it carry on living rather than sleep for eleven months of the year. Nothing has been stripped out: the walnut sideboard, the patterned kitchen floor and the brass wall lights are all where they have always been. What was missing was simply added — Wi-Fi, a billiard table, bicycles in the shed.

The result is 160 square metres entirely on one level, without a single step between the bedrooms and the garden. A rare layout, and a precious one with small children or with grandparents.

The unexpected room

A real billiard room, not a lounge with a table squeezed in

This is the room nobody asks about before arriving and everybody misses on leaving. A French billiard table in pale maple fills an entire room, lit by its own pendant lamp, standing on the original patterned parquet.

On rainy evenings it saves the holiday. On summer evenings it keeps dinner going long after the garden has turned cool.

  • French billiards, dedicated room
  • Lounge with flat-screen TV and DVD player
  • Free Wi-Fi throughout
  • Bicycles lent at no charge
  • Dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer
  • Two separate toilets

A real lovely place. Everything that we wanted and more. Wonderfully equipped kitchen and rooms.
September 2010
The house was perfect for our family stay: so large, so spacious and so well equipped — that is rare. The sunshine let us enjoy the village and the banks of the Serein.
October 2011
We greatly enjoyed our stay in this house, which was larger than our little house in Holland.
